Why veterinary care matters
From closed doors to certified vets running a spay/neuter programme — in just 18 months.

Vets are one of the key factors in reducing the population of abandoned dogs and raising awareness of animal welfare. When we started, our first conversations with vets met closed doors, disapproval, melancholy or plain disbelief that anything could change when it comes to dog abandonment and irresponsible ownership.
Just 18 months later, things are already different. We’re not saying the problem is solved, but we’re taking decisive, wonderful steps towards our long-term goal — zero abandoned animals.
Continuous education, research and cooperation with more experienced partners helped us get things moving. Today our small community has vets certified by international organisations and trained to run an efficient, high-quality CNR (catch–neuter–return) programme. We trained alongside them to monitor the process properly, and spay/neuter campaigns have continued ever since, as fast as funds and people allow.
The energy has changed too: from melancholy and disapproval to calls asking when the next campaign starts. We look forward to more training and expanding this work. We’re opening doors, one at a time.
